Animus Movement is a contemporary modern dance company dedicated to inspiring, educating, and engaging the community through dance. The company is committed to providing opportunities for diverse artistic expression, cultivating an appreciation for dance, and supporting the development of both emerging and established artists.
Through its second company, Animus II, and youth program, Animus Iuventus, Animus Movement provides pre-professional dancers with meaningful performance opportunities that foster creativity, discipline, and artistic growth while preparing them for future careers in dance. Collaboration is central to the company's creative process, and Animus Movement regularly works alongside dancers, choreographers, musicians, visual artists, and other interdisciplinary collaborators.
Founded in New York City in February 2021 and expanded to Colorado in October 2022, Animus Movement has quickly established itself as an active contributor to the contemporary dance community. The company has been invited to perform at numerous festivals and venues, including Dixon Place, the KnJ Theater, Triskelion Arts, Mignolo Arts Center, Sam Scripps Studios, Green Space, and the TADA Theater in New York City, as well as the Dairy Arts Center, the Parsons Theatre, the Byron Theater at the Newman Center, and the Children's Museum Denver in Colorado.
Over the past five years, Animus Movement has created four dance films, co-produced performances at New York Live Arts, Ballet Arts, and New York City Center, and produced evening-length concerts at the Nomad Playhouse in Boulder and the Cleo Parker Robinson Theater in Denver. In 2026, the organization received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, further advancing its mission of expanding access to contemporary dance through performance, education, and community engagement.
Animus Movement is a project-based dance company. We are always seeking creative collaboration in interdisciplinary contexts, be it with choreographers, musicians, visual artists and beyond. Email us at beck@animusmovement.com
